POSITION YOUR UAS AS A PRE-ASSESSED, REGULATOR-RECOGNISED PLATFORM.
Why SAIL Marking matters?
UK SORA defines a range of technical risk drivers that, if not properly mitigated, can compromise the safety of UAS operations. It also establishes robustness criteria (Low / Medium / High) to assess whether these risks are adequately mitigated —what we refer to as UK SORA requirements.
A significant subset of these requirements can only be satisfied at design level—through system architecture, safety functions, and manufacturing integrity.
The SAIL Mark Policy Concept (CAP722K) enables UAS and safety accessory designers to have these design-level mitigations independently assessed by a Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE-F) and subsequently validated by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, resulting in a SAIL Mark Certificate.
This certificate can then be reused by operators in their SORA applications—reducing their burden of proof and accelerating operational approvals.
A UAS with an established SAIL Mark (e.g. SAIL II) and validated safety functions—such as:
-
M2 mitigation (e.g. Parachute Recovery System – PRS)
-
Containment Medium Robustness (e.g. Flight Termination System – FTS)
can be commercialised more effectively, as operators can deploy it in higher population densities, or more complex operational environments.

SAIL MARKING APPLICATION SUPPORT
Although the CAP722K framework is still in early deployment, SAIL Marking is emerging as a key market differentiator and growth accelerator, providing:
-
Increased trust from regulators
-
Faster Operational Authorisations for end-users
-
Stronger positioning in procurement and partnerships.
What we do:
Understand SAIL Marking requirements
-
Translate CAP722K and UK SORA requirements into design and evidence expectations
-
Assess your current system against:
-
Applicable Operational Safety Objectives (OSOs)
-
Target robustness levels
-
-
Identify gaps, risks, and certification-critical elements
Define your SAIL strategy
We help you structure a clear and achievable pathway to SAIL Mark certification:
-
Selection of target SAIL level aligned with your market
-
Identification of design features required to meet robustness claims
-
Definition of test plans and evidence generation strategy
-
Integration with your product development roadmap
Support your conformity dossier
-
Development of a comprehensive technical and compliance file, including:
-
System architecture and safety functions
-
Containment and mitigation strategies
-
Test data, analysis, and reliability evidence
-
-
Structuring of traceability between design features and SORA mitigations
-
Pre-assessment readiness review
Engage with RAE-F and regulator
-
Coordination with Recognised Assessment Entities (RAE-F) during review
-
Support in addressing findings and non-conformities
-
Preparation of robust justification arguments
Outcome
A SAIL Mark-certified UAS, with:
-
Independently assessed and regulator-validated safety functions
-
Reduced approval burden for operators
-
Faster and broader commercial deployment potential
