Drone regulatory frameworks — explained clearly, applied operationally
Foundation knowledge: Introduction to drone regulations
Designed for end-users, asset owners, and decision-makers who need to understand what drones can do and how they are regulated — without needing to become regulatory experts.
Covers:
-
UK and EU drone regulatory structure (Open, Specific, Certified categories)
-
The Open Category and the benefits of Class Marked UAS
-
The Specific Category: PDRA and SORA applications
-
Responsibilities of remote pilots and drone operators
-
Airspace structure and flight permissions
SORA Training
Format options:
1-Day UK SORA Workshop — A deep dive into the UK SORA safety methodology: its intent, structure, and practical implementation. After the core training, we work hands-on with participants to frame a potential SORA application based on their specific use cases and locations.
2-Hour Executive Briefing — A concise, plain-English session for senior decision-makers and non-specialists, delivered virtually.
By the end of training, participants will be able to:
-
Understand UK SORA and SORA v2.5 methodology and risk logic
-
Define Flight Volumes, Contingency Volumes, and Ground Risk Buffer zones
-
Assess Ground Risk Class, Air Risk Class, and applicable mitigations
-
Determine SAIL level and identify applicable OSOs
-
Understand containment requirements relative to operational area population density
-
Distinguish what is operationally accessible today from what requires more complex justification
-
Engage more confidently and effectively with the CAA
After providing that core knowledge during the training day, our approach is to work hands-on on framing a potential SORA application based on clients’ user cases and locations.

SPECIFIC OPERATIONS RISK ASSESSMENT
"SORA"
The introduction of SORA represents one of the most significant shifts in drone regulation in years.
The Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) framework enables more complex operations and supports a very broad range of Concept of Operations within the Specific Category, from very small drones to very large cargo drones.
As a result, SORA is complex and broad. However, only Civil Aviation Authorities are required to master SORA in its entirety! Understanding what is and is not relevant to you within SORA is essential. Through this training, we will provide you with the foundation knowledge, and guide you to quickly identify what applies specifically to your operations.
Making your SORA risk assessment and application for an Operational Authorisation faster and more straightforward—so your organisation can focus on delivering value with drones.
