For manufacturers with platforms still in development, identifying viable test locations in a dense country like the UK is a real challenge. In the absence of extensive flight hours, higher-risk operations may be restricted to remote Test and Evaluation sites. Maintaining the ability to conduct routine development checks — low-speed, low-altitude, VLOS — at a site closer to base is operationally essential.

Did you know? It is possible to reverse-engineer SORA's ground risk models, demonstrate that your operations fall into a lower risk category than the standard tables indicate, and unlock the safety margin needed to operate at your preferred site.

This approach is particularly valuable for Test and Evaluation programmes. It is also accessible to OEMs and operators whose operations are penalised by a single risk driver — such as platform speed or size — and who can demonstrate they still meet the applicable Target Level of Safety.
